What is the best way to practice thirds on the piano?

I am having some troubles making the crossovers like in the right hand going from 35 to 13 or from 35 to 12 in ascending thirds and I have the same trouble with left hand descending. Are there any suggestions that can be made to make this crossover easier? It also seems as if the hand has to be positioned fairly awkwardly to do it.
