Did anyone know about the "fab five" while it was happening in real life?

I just saw that Fab five Texas cheerleading scandal whatever movie. they said this was based on a true event. So i did a little research, and I found a few pictures of the real fab five. And i even found a few reports that were written on it. my question is why am i just knowing about this if it happened like..3 years ago!! does anyone have a clip of that video they made and does anyone really know what theyre doing now?
