Is Amtrak Safe. Not as far as accidents, but safety.?

I am going from Cincy to Indy with hubby and 2 young children. Taking the train because the kids will get a kick out of it. Should I bring mace with me. Never been on one, don't know anyone who has either. Not sure of the clientele that usually take the train. Just want to be prepared.
