Is there any self sufficient society left in the world? aka trading bartering no money, just craft + trade?

I am a high school grad. I did a lot of dumb things as a kid and have blown chances at college, a little besides the point. But either way im sick of modern day living. The old days where you could settle and hunt and live freely and without monetary restrictions, thats what I yearn for. I want the kind of freedom that noone has to my knowledge. Remember the knights and templars and whatnot? The age where you could mount a horse and head out, eventually settling down, or just camping from night to night. Now there are laws and restrictions and roads etc. Is there any society left anywhere in the world where I could go and settle and become part of a trade society and do things a little "old school"?
